Dance Lesson

Below is a lesson I taught with other teacher candidates in my program. It is targeted towards Grade 5 students focusing on the science unit properties and changes of matter and dance!

The warm-up activity is called Murder Wink and students LOVE it! I have used it in my placement block before, having students act out a dramatic death after being shot or turn into a zombie. This game is fun and flexible because it can be changed to literally anything and in this case, its dance! If a student gets winked at they are required to show off their moves. It is important to give students a go to move if they are shy or cannot think of something on the spot, so they have a backup move to go to.

Starting the Minds on activity students are required to go to home base. If your wondering what this means, I explain it in another post click here. The students had a great time with this activity, it allowed them to move around and think about science in a fun way! This can then be extended into a Simon says game where students are told "Simon says to move like a liquid" "Simon says to move like a solid" "Simon says to move like a gas" This allows the teacher to see if the students understand the concepts and it gives them something to remember. This activity can also be changed depending on the unit you are teaching.

Overall, I would recommend using these activities as the students are always engaged!
