Within this math section there are three sections: Geometric properties, Relationships between these properties, and Location and movement of shapes.
Geometry is the study of shapes, and allows an opportunity for students to explore 2D and 3D shapes hands on and visually.

Above is an example how students can work with shapes hands on. Students are able to identify what shapes they are using to build the Asteroid found in this image. It is a fun and inclusive activity because there are multiple ways that students can complete this task using multiple of variations.
Coordinates are a set of values that show an exact position. The first number represents X, that is found on the horizon, and the second number represents Y, that is found on the vertical. Coordinates can be used on maps or graphs to show where a location is.
What stuck out for me this week was a fun activity that allows students to practice plotting their coordinates. This activity is fun and engaging because students are encouraged to plot their coordinates properly to achieve the final image that the teacher creates with the coordinates provided. This was one of my favourite lessons growing up, I loved plotting points on a graph, as it was an easy concept for me to grasp. This lesson can then be incorporated with an art component that allows the students to colour the finishing picture. I would have loved this growing up, I always enjoyed drawing and colouring so incorporating it into a math class would have been a perfect day for me! This activity is unique and exciting because students can be motivated to finish plotting and connecting their coordinates to see the final picture, that the teacher shouldn't show prior to the activity, it should be left as a surprise, as it is the most exciting part!
Incorporating this River Riding Coordinates Sheet within a Geometry lesson, students can analyze the final picture and list the shapes they have found within it. This activity allows students to practice and refresh their prior knowledge.

Lesson Planning
This week we also looked at lesson planning, something I am hoping will become second nature to me! I think the hardest part about lesson planning is making sure the activities are beneficial for everyone's learning needs within the classroom by incorporating an inclusive environment for the students that are gifted, on IEP's and the student's that need extra time to understand concepts. I also think it is important to be able to be flexible with the lesson plans we make. Not all the lesson plans we create are going to work out as planned, as educators it is important for us to be able to modify activities if the class is not able to grasp the understanding. It is important to reflect what worked out during the lesson and what did not to be able to adjust these areas for future teaching.
